Annual Appeal Kicks-off

Last updated on October 4, 2016

The goal for this year’s Archdiocesan Annual Appeal is again $1.4 million and there is hope that even with the Saskatchewan economy struggling the goal will be reached this year. Last year it came close with $1.336 million raised or 95% of the total. It was also the second highest total raised since the appeal began in 2000.

A slide presentation that scrolled during the kick off noted that since its inception over $19 million has been raised, all to support Archdiocesan Ministries. More than 20,000 campaign envelopes were scheduled to be mailed out this year. Archdiocesan Administrator Very Reverend Lorne Crozon said 20% of all parishes contributed in the campaign “and just think what could be raised if 25 0r 30% contributed.” The number of donors and the number of parishes who contributed to last year’s campaign increased over the year previous and 35 parishes reached their goal and received rebates of about $60,000.00. The appeal refunds 80% of the excess for each parish...

Annual Appeal Kick-Off

Last updated on September 29, 2015

The longest running Lay Ministry program in the country was just one of the questions participants in a unique form of the game show Jeopardy had to answer as part of the 15th annual kick off for the Regina Archdiocesan Appeal. It took place September 23 at Our Lady of Peace Church that sits across the parking lot from the Chancery Office.

Instead of the just the usual speeches, distribution of materials and sometimes a skit or two organizers of the annual kick off decided on something different and came up with their own version of Jeopardy. The Youth Ministry was charged with putting together the program and came up with five categories; 100 Years of Faith; Service to All; Changing Times; The Size of Germany and Follow the Leader. Three volunteers from the audience, Marianne Gordon from St. Lawrence Parish, Maple Creek; Jeannine Nelson Our Lady of Grace Parish, Sedley and Paul Ponak of Holy Child, Regina competed. Holy Family Youth Minister Kaylene McQuaid played the role...

Giving Tuesday

Last updated on November 24, 2014

You may have heard about an event coming up this year on December 2nd called “Giving Tuesday.” This is an international movement to counter the culture of consumerism in December that has its “kick-off” on “Black Friday” and “Cyber Monday” – two dates where special sales and discounts are offered by retailers to get consumers in the door early for the holiday season.

Giving Tuesday is the kick off for the “giving season” and is about promoting the idea that December is a month when we also remember to share what we have with others. Though the movement is not specifically Christian, the idea of refocusing attention on helping others is a good fit with our call to use the Advent season as a time for focusing on prayer, almsgiving and sacrifice.

The Mayor of Regina declared December 2nd as “Giving Tuesday” in the City of Regina and groups of local charities in Southern Saskatchewan are coming together to promote this day across the province. Your parishioners will...

Archdiocesan Appeal Fall Launch

Last updated on October 8, 2014

Regina archdiocesan parishes received a glimpse of what the annual appeal supports during the fall launch of the appeal held September 25 at Our Lady of Peace Church. Director of Pastoral Services and Vicar General Very Reverend Lorne Crozon told priests and parish officers that the appeal helps the archdiocese to build. The appeal actually begins in January but it’s the fall launch that kicks it into high gear to achieve the $1.4 million goal to support 15 ministries and nine third party charities and organizations within the Archdiocese. “God calling us to something special,” said Crozon, it is our chance to serve.”

The kick off also featured a couple of short videos. The first described a youth pilgrimage to Philippines where they built a couple of houses for needy families. “It took us three years to get it going,” said Archdiocesan Youth Coordinator Michelle Braden. “My life will never be the same” said Braden of the experience. Megan Bend one of 42 young people who...
