Archbishop Daniel Bohan established a special property committee to offer the John Paul II Centre for sale or development. In early December, Archdiocesan Property Coordinator, Garry Oledzki, was given the task of organizing the tenders for the sale or development of the property.
"Over 300 tender packages were printed and distributed to everyone that we thought might be interested," said Oledzki. "Packages were sent to church groups, group homes, day cares, seniors groups, other convents, business persons in the community, developers, contractors and realtors. Inserts were put into our church bulletins and it was publicized on our website and in the Leader Post."
Tenders from Parties interested in purchasing or re-developing the property were accepted until Tuesday midnight January 31, 2012.
At 2:00 on Wednesday February 1st, members of the Archdiocesan Property Committee and interested parties met for a public opening of the twelve sealed tenders that were received.
Most tenders contained proposed uses of the property, ideas for development of seniors or retirement communities including accommodation for retired Catholic priests and support staff. Some proposed office, youth and assisted living facilities for the site.
All of the tenders were read out to everyone present by Garry who then said, "the property committee will now be evaluating and meeting with the final groups or individuals selected." He added, "we were very happy with the overwhelming response, our expectations were exceeded."
