Two Regina men were conferred with Papal Knighthoods of the Order of Pope St. Sylvester during the September 5, 11:00 A.M. mass at Holy Rosary Cathedral. The knighthood is conferred on Roman Catholic Laymen, although it can also be conferred on non-Catholics, who are actively involved in the life of the church as it is exemplified in the exercise of their professional duties and mastership of the different arts.
Paul Hill is CEO of the Hill Companies that operates in real estate, broadcasting, insurance, oil and gas, manufacturing and technology in Canada and the United States. His biography lists his association and activities in a multitude of national and international business, educational, charitable and voluntary organizations.
Dale M. Scrivens is Managing Partner with the Regina law firm of Bertram Scrivens Macleod. His biography also lists many and varied business, professional and charitable organizations. Both men characteristically wanted others to receive recognition for their award. “I was surprised and honoured to say the least,” said Scrivens, “this is really an award to all the people I’ve worked with over the years because no one does these things by themselves.” Hill said, “I want recognition focused on the children and how they can be leaders. They will have the opportunity to make it happen.” Hill also said of course he was pleased and honoured to have this work recognized.

Hill’s focus is on several educational philanthropies in Regina: The charity ‘One Life Makes a Difference’ provides opportunities for inner-city underprivileged children and supports, along with the local Jesuit community and the Regina Roman Catholic School Board; Nativity Miguel School which is to be established in Regina for underprivileged children; Catholic Studies and Business Ethics programs at Campion College; The Paul J. Hill School of Business at the University of Regina; Co-chair of the Athol Murray School of Notre Dame ‘Realize the Dream’ campaign and a program that provides opportunities for a university education for children of staff.

He also served as legal counsel and board member for the Catholic Bible College of Canada, Globe Theatre, Ranch Ehrlo, the Regina Symphony Orchestra, Catholic Section of the Saskatchewan School Trustees Association; has served on several parish councils, is chair of the Archdiocesan Finance Committee and served as board member and chair of Regina Big Brothers, Catholic Family Service Society, Regina Symphony Orchestra and Harvest Community Inc. that operates the SARCAN recycling facilities.
