Mandates

The mandate of the Core Working Group, with direct input from victims, is to have an open transparent and accountable process to discern the overall direction of the archdiocesan response to the legacy of clergy sexual abuse and actions to prevent further abuse from occurring. The Core Working Group will work in the drafting, implementation and oversight of the Clergy Sexual Abuse (CSA) Policy, and will review this policy on a semi-annual basis with the possibility of updating it. They will also review other policies which relate to clergy sexual abuse and its prevention. The Core Working Group will oversee education and formation initiatives on accompaniment of victims, on the life-long consequences of clergy sexual abuse, on current policies addressing CSA and its prevention, on ways to recognize potentially abusive behaviour.

Victim Service and Advocacy

The mandate for the Victim Services and Advocacy position is, in the first instance, to provide outreach, accountability, and transparency for victims of clergy sexual abuse.

In close consultation with the Archbishop of Regina and the Archdiocesan core working group on clergy sexual abuse, the Victim Services and Advocacy position is also tasked with:

  • providing education and formation for non-victims on the life-long consequences of clergy sexual abuse, on accompaniment of victims, and on ways to recognize potentially abusive behaviour;
  • working on current policies relating to clergy sexual abuse and its prevention;
  • assisting in the work of addressing the legacy of clergy sexual abuse in the Archdiocese in a responsible manner;

This also includes working with other members of the Archdiocese when approached or deemed necessary.
