Archbishop's Appeal Kick-Off

Last updated on October 19, 2017

SEPTEMBER 21, 2017

By Frank Flegel

"As disciples of Jesus we are called to be bearers of hope,” said Archbishop Donald Bolen as he addressed the Kick-off activities for the Archbishop’s Appeal held September 21 at Our Lady of Peace Church.

“Building up hope in our communities, communicating it to others by the way we live and by our active outreach in love,” was Archbishop Bolen’s message of support for the Appeal. He was the last of several speakers to talk about the importance of the Appeal in carrying out the various ministries in service to the people of the Archdiocese of Regina. The theme for this year’s campaign is Hope, Born of Mercy which was reflected in the Archbishop’s message to parish representatives who were together for the Appeal Kick-off. “The Appeal is a tangible way in which we can foster hope. The many things the Appeal can fund are so important for us to know and to name.” He mentioned...

Annual Appeal Kicks-off

Last updated on October 4, 2016

The goal for this year’s Archdiocesan Annual Appeal is again $1.4 million and there is hope that even with the Saskatchewan economy struggling the goal will be reached this year. Last year it came close with $1.336 million raised or 95% of the total. It was also the second highest total raised since the appeal began in 2000.

A slide presentation that scrolled during the kick off noted that since its inception over $19 million has been raised, all to support Archdiocesan Ministries. More than 20,000 campaign envelopes were scheduled to be mailed out this year. Archdiocesan Administrator Very Reverend Lorne Crozon said 20% of all parishes contributed in the campaign “and just think what could be raised if 25 0r 30% contributed.” The number of donors and the number of parishes who contributed to last year’s campaign increased over the year previous and 35 parishes reached their goal and received rebates of about $60,000.00. The appeal refunds 80% of the excess for each parish...

Annual Appeal Kick-Off

Last updated on September 29, 2015

The longest running Lay Ministry program in the country was just one of the questions participants in a unique form of the game show Jeopardy had to answer as part of the 15th annual kick off for the Regina Archdiocesan Appeal. It took place September 23 at Our Lady of Peace Church that sits across the parking lot from the Chancery Office.

Instead of the just the usual speeches, distribution of materials and sometimes a skit or two organizers of the annual kick off decided on something different and came up with their own version of Jeopardy. The Youth Ministry was charged with putting together the program and came up with five categories; 100 Years of Faith; Service to All; Changing Times; The Size of Germany and Follow the Leader. Three volunteers from the audience, Marianne Gordon from St. Lawrence Parish, Maple Creek; Jeannine Nelson Our Lady of Grace Parish, Sedley and Paul Ponak of Holy Child, Regina competed. Holy Family Youth Minister Kaylene McQuaid played the role...
