DESCRIPTION:Prayer for Christian Unity \nThe Regina Council of Churches invites you to a city-wide ecumenical worship service at Lakeview United Church (3200 McCallum Ave.) on Sunday\, January 21 at 3:00 pm. The preacher will be Cam Fraser\, Director of Growth and Ministry Development\, United Church of Canada. \nJoin together with Christians across Regina as we pray for Christian unity. The 2024 theme is “You shall love the Lord your God … and your neighbour as yourself” based on Luke 10:25-37. In Grassroots Ecumenism\, Karen Petersen Finch upends this process\, proposing an approach to Christian unity that begins in your neighbourhood. She draws directly from her experience equipping everyday Christians to know their own Christian tradition more thoroughly and to engage thoughtfully with separated Christians down the street and around the corner. \n\nWed. DESCRIPTION:Workshop:\nThe De Margerie Series also includes an in-person-only workshop entitled The Eucharist – Where is Jesus? held in Saskatoon 10 a.m. to noon\, Friday\, Jan. 26 (with a soup lunch to follow) at Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church\, 114 Kingsmere Place\, Saskatoon; and in Regina 10 a.m. to noon\, Saturday\, Jan. 27\, at Christ the King Roman Catholic Church\, 3239 Garnet Street\, Regina. \nThe Speaker:\nDr. Karen Petersen Finch is an ecumenical theologian in the Reformed tradition who specializes in dialogue with Roman Catholic theology at the local\, national\, and international levels. Karen is Professor of Pastoral Leadership at The Presbyterian College in Montréal\, QC\, Canada and represents the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) in the Reformed-Catholic Dialogue in the United States. Karen earned her doctoral degree from Gonzaga University with a dissertation recommending the theological method of Bernard Lonergan\, S.J. for ecumenical dialogue. She later studied as a Fellow of the Lonergan Institute at Boston College in Chestnut Hill\, Massachusetts. Her book\, Grassroots Ecumenism: The Way of Local Christian Reunion\, is currently inspiring multilateral dialogue among lay people in the West Island of Montreal. \nThe Series:\nThe De Margerie Series for Christian Reconciliation and Unity is named in honour of Fr. Bernard de Margerie\, a priest of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Saskatoon who has dedicated his life in ministry to the promotion of Christian unity. In this 12th year of the series\, lectures are offered in both Regina and Saskatoon. The De Margerie Lectures are presented by the Prairie Centre for Ecumenism\, the Leslie and Irene Dubé Chair for Catholic Studies at St. Thomas More College at the University of Saskatchewan\, Campion College at the University of Regina\, the Saskatoon Theological Union (College of Emmanuel & St. Chad\, Lutheran Theological Seminary\, and St. Andrew’s College)\, the Archdiocese of Regina\, and the Roman Catholic Diocese of Saskatoon.
