Sacred Heart of Mary Parish - destroyed by fire, November 14, 2018

Sacred Heart of Mary Parish was lost due to fire during the early hours of Wednesday, November 14, 2018. All that remains is this statue of Mary (pictured top left).

Sacred Heart of Mary Parish at Marieval had its humble beginnings between 1874-1885. In 1885, Fr. Agapit Page OMI became the first resident priest. He lived in a log cabin on the hill. This cabin served as a residence for him, a place to say Mass in the mrorning and a school house for the afternoon. In 1887, he moved to the valley and bought a house. The first Sacred Heart of Mary Church was built in 1889. This church was demolished  in the early 1930's, and the church from 1936 to present was built on the same site.

Over the years, the church became a resort church it was open from May until the end of September serving the seasonal residents at Crooked Lake.
