Navigating the Archdiocese of Regina Policy on Sexual Abuse of Minors and Vulnerable Adults by Clergy or persons in a Religious Order
“The crimes of sexual abuse offend Our Lord, cause physical, psychological and spiritual damage to the victims and harm the community of the faithful. In order that these phenomena, in all their forms, never happen again, a continuous and profound conversion of hearts is needed, attested by concrete and effective actions that involve everyone in the Church….” (Pope Francis, Apostolic Letter Vos Estis Lux Mundi [Lux Mundi], 2019)
This 2019 policy places new emphais on these key changes to assist those in rporting
Confidential phone and email to report abuse.
Understanding victims did not cause and are not responsible for the abuse they endured.
Ability to have a support person with you at all times.
Recognition of the long-term ramifications from the abuse including, spiritual, psychological, emotional, physical damage.
Free trauma counselling.
Victims being informed that they retain the right to go to through criminal or civil proceedings.
Option of a female or a male layperson to handle the report instead of a clergyperson.
Formal report will involve:
- Providing and, in time, signing your statement.
- Providing any witnesses you want to be interviewed.
- You will be kept informed of what is occurring during the process.
- You will be made aware of free trauma counselling that is available to you.
- The diocese has people available to accompany you through the process.
- You will not be made to feel bad or at fault for coming forward.
- You retain the right to go to the police or take other legal measures at any time.
- You are able to stop the process at anytime.
- The Archbishop will meet with you at your request.

Healing is a personal journey and coming forward can be a difficult choice.
Your life may have been rooted in shame, blame, and pain, filled with physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual damage.

What you should expect from the reporting process:
You will be treated with dignity and respect.
You will not be pressured to complete the process until you are ready.
The process goes as fast or as slow as you are comfortable with.
Ask as many questions as you want.
