Prayer to Use Our Gifts

Prayer to Use Our Gifts

My Gifts are Especially Chosen
Our talents and abilities have been given to us by God.  He calls us to use our talents creatively and boldly in the service of God.  Don’t second guess the Lord by wanting something you do not have.  Trust that God has blessed you with the gifts you need, and use them!

All: Dear God, thank you for what I have. Help me use it to your glory. Amen.

What Do You Want from Me?
God, Jesus tells us to give to you what is yours.  What do you want from me, God?  What can I give to you? I can offer my time and talents to serve my faith community.  I can sing, play an instrument, draw posters, greet visitors, clean, decorate, organize, cook, bake, and telephone.  I can help teach children, lector, or usher,…but is it enough, Lord?  What more can I give? I can reach out to serve and share your love at home, in my neighbourhood, my school, my community,…but is it enough, Lord?  What more can I give?

All: I want to serve you better, Lord.  Speak to me, and I will listen.  Amen.

Spice Me Up, Lord
Lord, I want to be where I can make a difference, where I can spice up another person’s life by bringing him or her the good news of your love and justice. Help me discover all the gifts you have graced me with so that I can help turn this world around—-starting with my own life!

All: Lord show me how to keep fresh in my commitment to serve you each day.  Amen.

A Little Gift Goes a Long Way
God, could you use me like the boy who helped feed the five thousand?  Out of the thousands of people gathered to see you, you chose a young person, took his five loaves and two fish, and made sure thousands had more than their fill to eat. (Jn 6: 1-13) I wonder how those people felt when that little bit of food was offered by a youth?  Were they embarrassed by the boy’s foolishness?  Or did they feel guilty that they had not offered their own food?  Regardless, you accepted the gift and did fantastic things with it. Could you do the same with me?  Could you take my simple gifts and do wondrous things with them?  I’m just afraid that my gifts will be rejected.  It’s risky, Lord, and I’m not good with risks, remember?

All: God help me to take the risk and let You use the gifts I have, trusting that it doesn’t matter what other people think.  Even if things don’t work out as I plan, I’ll trust that you are in charge and know better than I.  Thanks, God.  Amen.
