Currently, the UN estimates that there are 117.2 million refugees, asylum seekers, and internally displaced people worldwide, and this number is growing. Serving those in the most need is one of our defining evangelizing tools. In the words of Jesus, “truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these, you did it to me” (Matt 24:40).
Catholic Social Teaching affirms:
- the universal dignity of each and every person, regardless of any categorical divisions;
- our call to love the poor and to always consider them first in our decision-making; and
- our obligation to empower our sisters and brothers, who have often had so much taken from them, so they can regain control over their lives in meaningful ways.
It is with these in mind that the Archdiocese of Regina would like to offer our support to any parish community wishing to sponsor a refugee or asylum seeker.
