Over the last several years we have begun to see the pain that those who have suffered trauma in their lives continue to endure on a daily basis. As disciples of Jesus, who in his ministry constantly found ways to reach out to those in need, we are called to do likewise and reach out to those who are hurting; much more so should we be committed to journeying with those who have been hurt by the church’s words, actions and inactions. Learning more about trauma-informed perspectives is a vital way of working towards meeting that commitment. It also coheres well with what has become as an emerging priority in the Archdiocese, namely, working towards transparency, accountability, and accompaniment of those who are wounded: and in a special way those who the accountability, and accompaniment of those who are wounded; and in a special way, those who have been wounded by the church and its leaders.
