Note from the Archdiocese of Regina regarding the publication of names of credibly accused Jesuits.
Yesterday, March 13, 2023, the Jesuit community in Canada made public the list of names of Jesuits from 1950 onwards who have been credibly accused of sexual abuse of a minor here. The names listed include those who served in the Archdiocese of Regina, primarily at Campion College (or High School).
Victims/survivors of clergy sexual abuse had the power of choice and their voices taken when they were abused. The decision to come forward and report is a personal one. Victims retain the right to seek justice through the criminal or civil process, or may choose to report directly to the church. Should any victim/ survivor wish to report sexual abuse to the Jesuits of Canada, you can do so by contacting their Provincial delegate for allegations of misconduct William Blakeney at [email protected], or in writing to the Jesuits of Canada, 25 Jarry St W, Montreal, QC H2P 1S6.
Any announcement of clergy sexual abuse is a reminder of the devastating impact of the abuse of power, and a summons to transparency, accountability, and support for victims/survivors. It is also a summons to exercise authority in the manner that Jesus called his disciples to: not lording it over others but seeking to serve, listening deeply to the voice of those who are suffering, caring for the vulnerable, and standing in solidarity with all those in need.
In the Archdiocese of Regina, any person who wishes to speak with someone about the process of preparing or submitting a report, seeking support or counselling regarding Clergy Sexual Abuse that occurred in the Archdiocese can contact the confidential phone numbers or confidential emails of the Archbishop’s Delegate Maureen Dumonceaux at 1(306) 400-3655 or [email protected], the Victim Service and Advocate: Pamela Walsh at 1(306) 533-4460 or [email protected] or Lorie Harrison who is contracted by the Archdiocese to provide counselling to victims/survivors free of charge at 1(639) 317-8104 or [email protected].
In his prayer intention for this month, Pope Francis has called for victims to be “at the centre” of the church’s response, and that the church “must offer safe spaces for victims to be heard, supported psychologically, and protected.”
We acknowledge the desire of the Jesuit community to take steps towards accountability and a victim-centred response to the legacy of clergy sexual abuse.
