The Neil Balkwill Centre located at 2420 Elphinstone Street will feature an art show entitled Igniting the Spirit of Reconciliation. The display of 94 artworks represent each of the 94 Calls to Action stemming from the final report of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (2015).
The artwork was created by students of Balcarres Community School and four from Vibank Regional School and are brought to Regina by the Truth and Reconciliation Committee of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Regina.
The artwork will be on display from February 3 – 29, 2024. During the tenure of the display, there will be four special presentations.
February 8, 2024 (7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.) – Official Opening featuring Michele Schwab (teacher) and Holly Yuzicapi (Indigenous Artist) who guided the students who created the artwork.
February 17, 2024 (10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.) – Guest Speakers Cadmus Delorme (Former Chief of Cowessess First Nation), Donald Bolen (Archbishop of Regina) and Kaila Johnstone (NCTR) who will speak to specific Calls to Action from the 94 Calls to Action.
February 21, 2024 (1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.) – Members of the Regina Survivors Circle will share their stories about the trauma experienced in Indian Residential Schools and their healing journeys.
February 26, 2024 – (1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.) – Presentation by Susan Beaudin – Sacred Treaty Relationships envisioned by the First Nations leaders when negotiating and signing of Treaty 4, 1874.
Registration is required for these events due to limited space. Email [email protected] to register. Snacks and refreshments will be served.
The display underlies the need to continue the work of implementing the 94 Call to Action and to further a deeper understanding between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples.
