Radville Pastoral Zone is a group of small communities that include Lake Alma, Minton, Bengough, Pangman, and Radville. These six small communities are blessed to have Father Thuy, who is very family-oriented. In 2018 Father wanted to have a carnival or fun day for children and families, and with the help of many volunteers and many donations, our first fun day was held. In 2020 we were not able to have the fun day, but in 2021 we wanted to once again have a day with children and families able to come and enjoy fellowship and have fun.
So, after many hours of planning, Father Thuy and Bridget Fillion got things going on a day of fun, games, and fellowship. The weekend began on the evening of Friday, September 10, when a few volunteers spent hours setting up a dunk tank, tents, tables and chairs, and many other items. Then on Saturday, September 11 at 10 am, the yard and parking lot of Holy Family Parish in Radville became a buzz of activity. Volunteers from each community in our Pastoral Zone manned a game tent, the concession, ticket sales, prize table, pie auction, cake walk, and garage sale. Game tickets sold quickly, and children scrambled to the dunk tank, barrel cars, Dino Dig, and many other games. The games continued for four hours, with children claiming hundreds of prizes. The highlight of the day had to be the dunk tank and barrel cars that had line-ups with kids waiting for their turn. We had some very special “victims” seated in the dunk tank, making this one of the most popular “attractions.” Our special “victims” were the principal of St. Olivier Catholic School, our very own Father Thuy, some fearless teenagers, and Bridget. She doubles as caretaker of St. Olivier and secretary for the Radville Pastoral Zone.
The success of this day rests solely on the volunteers and anyone that graciously donated prizes, food, or items for the garage sale. All funds raised from the Fun Day are used to pay for Confirmation books, Graduation gifts, Confirmation gifts, and so much more for the children in our Pastoral Zone.
