YORKTON………On hundred years ago the Sisters Servants of Mary Immaculate arrived in Yorkton and began teaching music and religion. It was a difficult time but the sisters persevered and it wasn’t long before some of their Sisters began teaching in Regina, Saskatoon and Prince Albert Schools. The Centenary celebration was a two parish affair here, The Ukrainian Catholic Church St. Mary and the Latin rite church, St. Gerard. Catholic Education in Saskatchewan is about to undergo a major court challenge with litigation starting on November 9,2015 in Yorkton. The Saskatchewan Catholic School Boards Association (SCSBA) has created a one page document to help our partners understand the essence of the upcoming court case. Indeed it was a special celebration on Thanksgiving Sunday, October 11 at St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church in Rama. It isn't too often that three Oblate priests celebrate The Holy Eucharist in unison at one location on a Thanksgiving Sunday. However, such was the case in Rama when Fr. The main foyer of the newly renovated St. Peter’s Hospital was filled with warmth, excitement and joy as the participants gathered in the sunshine to celebrate St. Peter’s Hospital 75th Anniversary.  Seventy-five years ago Archbishop P. J. Monahan called the Sisters of St. Martha to come to Melville and manage the Melville Municipal Hospital.  The sister’s arrived on June 28, 1940 the Feast Day of St. Peter.  By 1942 the name was changed to St. Peter’ Hospital.  The sisters of St. Martha served the community for 40 years.  In 1980 the ownership of the hospital was... more

Yorkton CWL St. Gerard 50th Anniversary

The CWL council at St. Gerard's parish in Yorkton, Saskatchewan celebrated their 50th Anniversary on Saturday, May 23, 2015. Mass was followed by a celebration tea served  on bone china cups and saucers, complete with fancy sandwiches and assorted dainties. St. Gerard's Art Retreat

The ecumenical committee at St. Gerard's in Yorkton held their Fall Art Retreat in November.  A good turn-out of artists in a variety of art forms from painting to embroidery to photography were on hand for the day as we explored the theme of "healing". Part of our group exercises included a "spiritual" visit to the Camino de Santiago, where we all left our pebbles of worries at the Iron Cross, as well as writing down our cares and worries on paper and burning them as a form of cleansing. Later, we made a group mandala, writing down specific prayer... more
