Raymond Roussin, SM, the seventh and last Bishop of Gravelbourg, was born in Manitoba on June 17, 1939.

After completing his early education at St. Boniface, he joined the Society of Mary (Marianists). He first prepared for a teaching career, completing university studies at St. Louis, Missouri and St. Mary’s in San Antonio, Texas.

Raymond Roussin, SM, the seventh and last Bishop of Gravelbourg, was born in Manitoba on June 17, 1939.

After completing his early education at St. Boniface, he joined the Society of Mary (Marianists). He first prepared for a teaching career, completing university studies at St. Louis, Missouri and St. Mary’s in San Antonio, Texas.

Called to the priesthood, he took his theological studies at the University of Fribourg, Switzerland, and was ordained in Fribourg on March 21, 1970.

He was chaplain of St. Paul’s College in Winnipeg and was serving as director of the Marianist community there when he was appointed to become the seventh Bishop of Gravelbourg.

He received his episcopal ordination from Bishop Delaquis at St. Boniface Cathedral on June 14, 1995, and was installed in his diocese on July 25.

In 1998, with the restructuring of the eccesiastical province of Saskatchewan, the diocese of Gravelbourg was dissolved and incorporated for the most part into the Archdiocese of Regina.

Bishop Roussin was appointed to the diocese of Victoria, British Columbia, to replace the retiring Bishop Remi de Roo. Bishop Roussin was installed in his new diocese on June 28, 1999.
