Examples
Below are some examples of what your small group could look like. Remember, the sky’s the limit!
For this small group, the leaders have decided to make it a women’s only group. It would include a time of exercise (a workout video, perhaps) and some reflection on the stories of Ruth, Sarah, Miriam, and many other strong women from scripture.
This small group is a mens group that meets for an hour of Adoration, followed by food and drinks at a local pub. Discussion could range from how God has been moving in their lives, discerning a vocation, or how the Riders are doing.
This group would focus on serving and supporting local justice and service initiatives, such as local soup kitchens, homeless shelters, partaking in sharing circles, etc. OYYAM could provide assistance in facilitating these outreach opportunities.
This is a small group that could happen online. It would be a gathering of young mothers, who would meet to pray for each other and for their families. The virtual gathering would always begin with a time of socializing and catching up.
This would be a group for those who aren’t afraid to get a little cold. The group would meet at a pre-determined location (perhaps an established trail), and simply go for a walk and get some fresh air. They would end their time together by grabbing a hot chocolate at Tims, and partake in a guided faith sharing.
These are but a few examples of what a small group could look like. When planning your own small group, please remember to consider three things:
- Faith – How will your group build and strengthen the faith life of its members?
- Social – How will your group connect and form intentional relationships?
- Who? – Who is the group for? Is it open to any young adult, or is for a specific demographic?
Running a small group in a smaller centre may present some unforeseen challenges. We get it. Let us know if you run into any roadblocks, and we would be more than happy to help in whatever way we can.
